The ALR has seen much abuse in the past and has to look ahead to avoid misuse of agricultural lands in the future. The ideal and goal of this project is honorable, but the reality is that once a particular agricultural property's land use has been changed to allow the building of any type of additional housing, future owners can also use that as a loop hole to build further housing (as in subdivisions). Valuable agricultural land is then lost forever. The ALR is in place to protect agricultural land from not only present misuse, but future misuse as well, when the motivation may not be as compassionate and idealistic.

I think you'll find that farming close to 200 acres using mainly manual labour ( and manual labour that has been living a very unstructured life for long periods of time and will be in constant need of professional physical, emotional, spiritual and therapeutic care) will be a lot more than you've bargained for.

We run a successful 160 acre farm on VI and it takes 'round the clock, committed, motivated and organized staff (6) in great physical and mental shape, using state of the art machinery and resources to keep it going. Unless you operate as a subsiduary of a larger non-profit organization (and can glean the excess income a non profit must deflect in order to show no profit) such as Hope Farm, it will be a very difficult task to be self-sufficient and take care of that much land in the manner it needs to be taken care of. Here's hoping you have the advice and counsel of farming experts to help you along!

I wonder as well, why ALR restrictions weren't looked into before starting the whole project of acquiring Woodwynn Farm? Anyone active in the farming community could have told you that the ALR has been tightening up its existing policies for a while now, out of necessity.

I support the preservation of agricultural land. In addition to being protected, it needs to be farmed. The Woodwynn farm proposal will use the land to produce organic produce using mostly manual labor. I can't think of a more sustainable way to grow food, or a better use of this land.

Be more available on the street.
Tweet and facebook where you will be and invite people to come to you to meet, where you are on the streets .
Make everyone become part of the process so they too will be affected by the homeless situation and experience first hand what it's like to meet you where you are living and working ... in your street office or van, rain or shine.

This will help to facilitate the interaction and crossover of the homeless and mainstream by interacting with both communities where the issue is - on the downtown streets of Victoria and the other communities within the CRD.

Share your experiences visually.
Show the world what you are seeing that we are all not. Let people see how people are actually living on the streets so it's not being left to everyone's imagination anymore.
No one in our society believes the homeless situation is as bad as it is because they don't see it; they need to see it and you're credible.
Carry a camera and let everyone and anyone who wants to, have their say publicly do it to you through you.

This is an opportunity to create huge awareness from within - you have the ears and eyes of both communities ...

my two cents ... be safe out there
